Job Descriptions; Why are They Important?

You may be thinking that everyone knows what a Pastor does, or that the other officers know what they are responsible for,  why do I need to write a job description? There are several reasons to consider; identifying talents and strengths for each of the officers,  will make it clear who may be best suited for a responsibility or project.  In addition, the job description will serve as a template for additional Pastors or other officers who you may bring into the ministry as you will have information at the ready, or when a Pastor retires or reduces the time they spend in the ministry, the gaps will be easier to identify and hopefully, fill. This document should be reviewed for any changes and additions on a periodic basis, such as your leadership meetings.  On a related note, be sure to take minutes of your meetings to build on what you have done before and not potentially duplicate efforts. Templates are available online, or let us know if you would like us to help you draft a custom document.
